The hot Summer weather can be brutal for our four-legged friends, so it’s important to keep them hydrated. Here are ways to keep your dog hydrated and healthy during these steamy months.

Ways To Keep Your Dog Hydrated

1. Replace your dog’s water bowl with fresh, cold water daily.

2. Feed your dog wet food. Water is included in wet food, so your dog will receive hydration that way.

3. Add water to dry food. This is also great for softening food for your dog.

4. Give your dog fresh fruits or veggies as a treat.

5. Take water on walks

6. Walk in the shade.

7. Make frozen pupsicles.

Dogs & Heat Strokes

Dehydration can lead to heat strokes, which can be fatal for dogs if not addressed quickly. Here’s what to look out for if you think your dog might be suffering from heat stroke.

Symptoms Your Dog is Experiencing Heat Stroke:

  • Elevated heart rate
  • Abnormally rapid breathing/panting
  • Excessive drooling
  • Gum color is something other than pink (pale, purple, or blue)
  • They are disoriented or in a stupor
  • Physical collapse

If you believe your dog is suffering from heat stroke get them into a shady area, and ideally to a vet clinic, as soon as possible. Placing a cold, wet towel over their back and wetting their ear flaps can help cool them down until medical care is possible.
