If you have access to a pool, this is a great way to spend time with your dog while beating the heat. Use a life jacket on your dog if they are new to swimming or they aren’t good swimmers in general.

Always keep an eye on your dog while in or around the pool. It’s also important to remember that not all dogs know how to swim instinctually, so never force your dog into a body of water if they do not want to do so.

There are plenty of dog-friendly beaches that you can take your pooch to. Playing fetch on the beach is a great activity to do with your dog. Be cautious of waves when playing or swimming. You should also put booties on your dog to protect them from the hot sand, and have a designated shady area for them to rest in.

A visit to your favorite lake can also be fun with your dog, especially if they love to swim and dive into water. However, one very important thing to be cautious of with lakes is blue-green algae, which is toxic to dogs. If you are taking your dog to a lake, do your research and make sure there isn’t any blue-green algae present.

Your dog can also have fun in your own backyard! Dogs love to play with sprinklers and chase water from a hose. If your dog isn’t too fond about water, a sprinkler is a great way to ease them into being comfortable getting wet.
