Halloween Treat Recipes

Halloween is right around the corner, so here are some fun Halloween treat recipes that you can make your dog to enjoy in the festivities.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cup of Oat Flour (Make your own by blending old fashioned oats in a food processor)

  • 1/4 cup of Unsweetened Applesauce

  • 2 tbsp of Peanut Butter (No Xylitol as it is toxic to dogs. Aim for single ingredient peanut butter)

  • 3/4 cup of mashed Purple or Orange Sweet Potato

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F
  2. Peel, slice, and boil your orange OR purple sweet potato in water for 15 minutes. Mash with a fork and set aside.
  3. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and thoroughly combine. Refrigerate the dough for 10-15 minutes if you’re using cookie cutters. This will make it much easier to roll out and cut into shapes.
  4. Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness and use your Halloween-themed cookie cutters to cut out shapes. Lay shapes on a parchment lined baking sheets. These do not spread while baking, so you can place them close together.
  5. Bake for 22-25 minutes. Treats will be firm and slightly browned on the bottom. Allow to fully cool before serving.
  6. Follow the recipe through again using your other purple or orange sweet potato if you’re making two colors. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 7-10 days.

Bone Yard Pumpkin Dog Treats

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Pumpkin puree (100% pumpkin)
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • Your dog’s favorite bone-shaped biscuits

Directions

  1. In a medium size bowl, mix the pumpkin and the yogurt together until well blended.
  2. Scoop and drop into a mini or regular muffin tin.
  3. Decorate with the bone dog biscuits.
  4. Place in the freezer for at least 4 hours.

Candy Corn Pupsicles

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup low-fat or fat-free plain yogurt, 235 g
  • 1 15-oz can pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling, 425 g
  • 1 banana, mashed until smooth
  • Edible stick ideas: dog treats, carrot sticks, celery

Directions

  1. Layer: Spoon yogurt into the bottom ⅓ of each popsicle well. Wipe the insides of mold as needed to prevent streaking between layers. Fill the old another ⅓ of the way up with pumpkin puree, then finish with mashed banana, leaving a little space at the top for them to expand. Insert an edible stick into each well.
  2. Freeze: Freeze until hard, at least 4 hours.
  3. Unmold: Run mold under warm water for a few seconds to loosen them up, them remove from mold. Serve to your pup while supervised.
