Halloween can be such a fun time for us and our pets, but it can also be a dangerous time for dogs. From Halloween candy, to costumes, to stressful environments, it’s important to know how to keep your dog safe this holiday season. Here are some Halloween safety tips to keep your pet happy and healthy:

Halloween Candy

Halloween candy might be a treat for us, but they’re toxic for your dog. Chocolate and most candies contain sweeteners that can cause gastrointestinal issues in dogs. Make sure to keep all human treats out of your dog’s reach.

Dogs notoriously bark whenever the door bell rings. Some will even bolt out the door when opened. If you’re expecting trick-or-treaters at your door this Halloween, keep your dog in another room while greeting visitors. Make sure your dog is tagged and chipped in case they make an escape.

Halloween Decorations

Be sure to keep any Halloween decorations out of your dog’s reach. This way they won’t have a chance to potentially chew and swallow something they’re not supposed to.

Pet Costumes

When picking a costume for your dog, make sure that it fits properly and that they can move normally. If possible, choose a costume that doesn’t have any parts your dog can chew on as it can be a choking hazard.
