Breed Origin
Pomeranians are descendants of Icelandic sled and believe it or not they use to be much bigger, some as large as 30 pounds. They get there name from an area along the Baltic Sea in both Germany and Poland called Pomerania. Here they were bred down to the size we know them to be today.
Physical Characteristics
Pomeranians have a very distinct look. They are characterized by their fox-like face, small pointed ears, and long thick fur that makes them look like little lions. Pomeranians’ coats come in almost 2 dozen colors and markings, but most Pomeranians are a red-orange color. They weigh on average 4-7 pounds, although some can weigh up to 14 pounds.

Grooming
Pomeranians have a thick double coat, so daily brushing is highly recommended to avoid matting and reduce shedding. Regularly grooming your Pomeranian is also very important. If you have your Pomeranian’s fur trimmed off for the Summer, keep in mind that it might not grow back to it’s original state.
Health
Pomeranians are generally healthy dogs. However, they are prone to alopecia. Also, make sure that your Pomeranian doesn’t jump down from high places as this can result to leg, hip, or knee injuries.
