Christmas Cookies For Dogs

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups 170g brown rice flour, plus extra
  • 1/3 cup 90g plain natural peanut butter (sugar and salt-free)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 banana ripe
  • 3 tablespoons organic honey
  • 1/4 cup 25g beet powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine all of the ingredients except the beet powder in a large bowl. Stir together until well-incorporated. Add the beet powder and knead together with your hands. The dough should not be sticky. If the dough is sticky add extra rice flour in a little at a time and knead together with hands.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a large sheet of parchment paper and top with a second sheet. Roll the dough between the sheets to 1/4-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to stamp shapes from the dough. Transfer the shapes to the prepared pan. When the pan is full of cut-outs, chill them in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
  4. Bake the cookies for 10 minutes for 2-inch shapes, and 12-15 for larger cookies shapes. Let cool completely before treating your canine friend.

Apple Mint Christmas Dog Bones

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup unbleached flour
  • 1/2 cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup oat bran
  • 2 tablespoons dry milk
  • 1 ½ teaspoons dry baking yeast
  • 2 tablespoons chopped spearmint leaves
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 2 teaspoons green or red food coloring (or spinach powder to get the desired color)
  • 7/8 cup water

Instructions

  1. With all of my recipes, you can use a heavy duty mixer with a dough hook. with a dough hook or a bread machine. I prefer the bread machine, as it’s so much easier. If you use a mixer, simply adjust the directions for making bread with your mixer. Place everything in the bread machine on the dough cycle.
  2. When the dough is ready, roll it to1/4” thick with a non-stick rolling pin.
  3. Using a mini bone cookie cutter, cut the dough into mini dog bone shapes.
  4. Bake at 250 degrees F for about an hour. Check to make sure that they don’t get too brown.
  5. Turn off the oven and let the mini dog bones dry completely in the oven—This works best overnight.

Gingerbread Dog Treat Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/4 Cups Water
  • 1/4 Cup Olive Oil
  • 1/2 Cup Molasses
  • 2 Tablespoons Honey
  • 3 Cups Organic Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Ground Cloves
  • 1 Tablespoon finely chopped Fresh Ginger

Instructions

  1. Get two large bowls. In one bowl combine the water, olive oil, molasses and honey. In the second bowl combine the flour, cinnamon, cloves and finely chopped ginger.
  2. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet. Mix until all are combined.
  3. Divide the dough into two, wrap and refrigerate for minimum 3.5 hours.
  4. Once chilled, remove dough from fridge and roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness (less than a centimeter).
  5. Pre-heat oven to 180 C (350 F).
  6. Use your Gingerbread Cookie Cutter to cut out the biscuits. Place on baking tray. Bake for 10-15 minutes.
