Teaching your dog tricks is a fun way to bond with them. It’s also a good way to let their energy out and tire them out. Here are 10 easy tricks to teach your dog to show off how great they are.
Easy Tricks To Teach Your Dog
1. Give Kiss
Who doesn’t love kisses from their dog? This is a fun, and probably the easiest trick to teach your dog. Just hold a treat to your cheek and try the command a few times. Your dog will pick up this trick in no time.
2. Shake Paw
Impress your family and friends by teaching your dog to shake hands with you. Hold a treat in one hand while shaking their paw in your other hand using the command that you choose.
3. Speak & Quiet
Teaching your dog to “speak” on command can be fun way to show off their intelligence. In order to do this you’ll first have to wait for a moment when they are going to bark, then with a treat in hand use the command of your choice. Repeat this a few times, then try using the command and treat at a time they won’t be barking on their own.
Likewise, you can teach your dog to be “quiet” too. This can be useful if your dog bark a lot. This time wait for your dog to stop barking and then they do so say your command and give them a treat. Repeat this step until your dog associates being quiet with getting a treat.
4. Roll Over
Practice having your dog get down on their belly and roll them over while saying the command that your choose. After rolling them over give them a treat. This trick will probably take a little longer to fully learn, but it will be totally worth it.
5. Sit
“Sit” is an important command for any good dog to know. Use the command while lightly pushing your dog’s bottom down to the ground, then give them a treat. Practice doing this a few times until your dog picks it up on their own.
6. Wait
You can teach your dog this command as you are leaving your home. At the doorway, have your dog sit then walk through and as soon as your dog starts to follow you hold out your hand and use the “wait” command. If they stay then give them a treat. Practice a few times until your dog gets it.
7. Come
You can teach your dog this trick in combination with teaching them “wait”. Have your dog sit and with a treat in your hand move away from your dog. Make sure they can see the treat and use the “come” command. If your dog is food driven they’ll up this trick in no time at all.
8. Down
Hold a treat down to the ground and use the “down” command. You can lightly push down on their back to get them to get into position.
9. Hug
For this trick you’ll have to practice lifting your dogs front legs up and placing them on your shoulder a few times using the “hug” command until they get it. Use a treat and tap your shoulders to get your dog to perform the trick.
10. High Five
The way you’ll teach your dog this trick is similar to the way you would tech them to shake paw, but the position of your hand will be different. Practice putting your dog’s paw in your hand in the high-five position, giving them a treat after doing so.
